How to make a connection from 2000 to 2005?

We are using SQL Server Enterprise Manager to connect to all of our SQL 2000
servers - one server, one box. Now we have a new box running SQL Server
2005. Is there anyway we can make a connection from a SQL Server 2000 box to
SQL Server 2005 box? We need a way to 'see' the new server from the 2000
box. SQL Server 2000 box is running .NET Framework 1.1 and SQL Server 2005
box is running .NET Framework 2.0.
Thanks in advance.
-tcInstall the SQL Server 2005 Client Tools on the SQL Server 2000 server. This
will give you the SQL Server Management Studio, which can be used to connect
to SQL Server 2005.

-tc|||You should be able to create a linked server between the boxes. You could
probably use openquery/openrowset to "see" the SQL 2005 box from the SQL
Server 2000 box.
As you have probably discovered, Enterprise Manager does not connect to SQL
Server 2005 boxes. You will need to use Query Analyzer or SQL Server
Management Studio (which is the client tools for SQL Server 2005). SSMS can
connect to a SQL Server 2000 install.

How to loop through this sql table and display in ms access listbox

I have a table in SQL, that I know how to connect to using ADO, but I
need help on how to read records from that table.

So on a form I have a listbox where I want to populate that and i have
a textbox with a userid.

Here is an example of the table:
USER ID TYPE PAYMENT
=====================
0001 CARD 150.00
0001 CASH 250.00
0002 CASH 175.00

If I have 0001 in the txtuserid textbox, I then want to display in
the listbox:
CARD 150.00
CASH 250.00

How would I do this?

thanksRon (pts4560@.yahoo.com) writes:

Set cmd = CreateObject("ADODB.Command")
Set cmd.ActiveConnection = cnn
cmd.CommandType = adCmdText
cmd.CommandText = "SELECT TYPE, PAYMENT FROM tbl WHERE USER_ID = ?"
cmd.Parameters.Append CreateParameter("@.userid", adInteger. _
adParamInput, , txtuserid.text)
rs = cmd.Execute

How to link/connect to Oracle server from SQL server 2000?

Greetings,
I want to connet to Oracle databse from SQL server 2000 since I am more comfortable with SQL 2000 client package. The oracle server is 8i or above.
I am running a SQL Server 2000 on a PC with Windows XP OS.
Please help what I need to do and configuration information.

Thank you all in advance.

BPGUgh, I'm not really sure that you want to do this. Try downloading the freeware version of Quest's TOAD for Oracle. That being said, if you really insist:

1. Install the Oracle client on your Windows XP box. Choose the client install.

2. Configure your SQL Net settings for the Oracle connection.

3. Using either Enterprise Manager or Query Analyzer (spaddlinkedserver). Add the Oracle instance to your SQL Server. The server instance on your PC must be up and running. Specific settings for an Oracle server can be found in BOL or Google.

4. Query the linked server by using OPENQUERY or OPENROWSET.

I AM NOT recommending this. The client interface for Oracle as a SQL worksheet which you can use and which is adequate for most things. The freeware version of TOAD (already mentioned) is equally capable (and in some respects superior to QA).

hmscott

how to let others connect to my sql server 2005?

Hi,

My collegue is trying to connect to my sql server 2005 using login 'sa' but he is not able to. It gives the following error :-

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233)

Please suggest

Ashu sharma

You have to enable remote connections:

Still not working, all the protocols are enable and i have also allowed remote connection.

Any Idea?
